How we assess neighbourhood eligibility:
We use different neighbourhood measures depending on where you live.
England
We use a combination of IMD, ACORN and TUNDRA data to assess whether a neighbourhood has:
- a low rate of progression to higher education, and/or
- high levels of socio-economic disadvantage.
You can check your IMD score for England using this postcode lookup.
Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland
We use POLAR4, ACORN, and the relevant national IMD datasets to assess neighbourhood participation in higher education:
- Scottish IMD postcode lookup
- Welsh IMD postcode lookup
- Northern Ireland Multiple Deprivation Measure postcode lookup
Students living in POLAR4 Quintiles 1 or 2 automatically meet our neighbourhood criteria.
A public POLAR4 postcode lookup for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland is available here.
Important note
Even if you are not in POLAR4 Quintiles 1 or 2, you may still be eligible based on IMD, ACORN or TUNDRA data (where applicable) and vice versa.
